In June 2023, I completed a full exterior house repaint in Manoora, Cairns, while operating under my original business name, Painting and Maintenance FNQ Handyman Service.
This was my second complete exterior repaint as a self-employed operator and one of the early projects in the development of the business now known as Painting & Maintenance FNQ.
The property featured exposed brickwork, painted masonry and a combination of ageing exterior finishes. The objective was to refresh the entire exterior and create a consistent, modern colour scheme.

Exterior Surface Preparation
Proper preparation was an important part of this project, particularly because the house featured several different exterior surfaces.
The exterior was thoroughly pressure-washed before painting to remove accumulated dirt and surface contamination.
All brick walls were then primed using Taubmans 3 in 1 Water Based Primer, preparing the brickwork for the new painted finish.
Applying primer to the brickwork was an important step in achieving a consistent finish across the previously exposed brick surfaces.
Exterior Painting and Colour Scheme
For this project, I used Taubmans All Weather exterior paint.
The selected colour scheme consisted of three finishes:
Exterior walls: COLORBOND® Shale Grey
Ceilings and soffits: Queensland Builders White
Gutters and fascia: COLORBOND® Monument
Shale Grey provided a light, consistent finish across the exterior walls, replacing the original combination of exposed brickwork and painted masonry.
Monument was used on the gutters and fascia, creating a strong contrast against the lighter walls. Queensland Builders White was used for the ceilings and soffits to maintain a clean, bright appearance.
Together, these colours gave the house a noticeably more modern and coordinated exterior.

The Finished Result
The completed repaint significantly changed the appearance of the property.
The original exposed brickwork and contrasting exterior surfaces were brought together under a consistent colour scheme, while the darker gutters and fascia provided definition to the roofline.
The result was a refreshed exterior with a cleaner, more contemporary appearance.
Completed in June 2023, this Manoora project remains part of the early history of Painting & Maintenance FNQ and demonstrates the importance of careful preparation, suitable primers and thoughtful colour selection.
